February 2-(Each Thursday)


A new program has been organized to help those who are either currently struggling with or have struggled with alcohol, drugs or addictions.  It’s called Celebrate Recovery which meets every Thursday evening from 6 to 730 at the Thayer Christian Activity Center.  It’s free to the public.  A meal will be offered at 6 with group time and break out sessions following the meal.  This is a special cooperative effort of the Thayer First Baptist Church and the First Church of God in Thayer.  The session will be lead by Keith Chapin.  So if you have hang-ups, hurts and habits your need to break, please come to this faith based program called Celebrate Recovery.  It’s every Thursday night.   Come as you are and be prepared to receive good help in a very relaxed atmosphere.

The Thayer Officers and emergency personnel in Oregon County are taking donations for “Shop with a Cop”.  This is for area children in Oregon County to help them to have Christmas gifts.  Shopping will take place on Saturday, December 9th.  A ticket for the gun giveaway is being held and available at the Thayer Police station...tickets are $1.00 each or 7 for $5.00.  If you have a child that you would like to participate in the Shop for Cop, stop by the Thayer Police station and fill out an application.  This needs to be done on or before November 30th.

The United State Marine Corps League and Channel 38 will present “A Good Old Country Christmas Concert Friday and Saturday, December 1st and 2nd at the West Plains Civic Center at 7:00 p.m. Admission is one unwrapped toy for a child…toys will stay in the local communities. Singers will include Barbara Fairchild and husband Roy Morris, The Mattingly Family, Dan Duncan and the TV 38 Special, The Tiptons, Comedian Pastor Pudge, Ron Childress and many more.

The Salem First Baptist Church is sponsoring an outdoor Christmas Drama “Journey to Bethlehem”  Tours begin every 30 minutes starting at dark. The church is located 552 US 62, Salem, Arkansas. Phone 870-895-2330.

REMEMBER TO GIVE TO THE SALVATION ARMY…They will be at different location collecting donations to help needed families here in the Ozarks. Ringers are needed in Thayer and Alton this year.  If you can donate some time contact Charles Trantham at 417-270-0097 or Larry Sisson at 817-706-1896.

The West Plains Elks lodge is hosting a Toy Drive for give Kids a good Christmas.  The date of the drive is December 1st at the Elks lodge north of West Plains.  The Fender Bender band will perform from 7 to 9 p.m.  Enjoy a Spaghetti dinner and fixins with the admission being a  NEW toy to help kids have a good Christmas.  Please let's join together and help.

December 2


Santa will be in Ash Flat, Arkansas at Ozark College on Saturday, Dec 2nd from 11:00 to 1:00. Bring your camera and get pictures of Santa and the kiddies.  Cookies will be provided.  The Ash Flat parade will be held at 2:00 p.m.  For more information contact Kim Whitten at 870-994-7273 or e-mail kwhitten@ozarka.edu.

Alton is hosting Christmas on the town in Alton on Saturday, Dec 2nd with the parade being held at 11:00 a.m.  Then from 5:00 until 7:00 there will be activities for everyone to enjoy…several of the businesses will be open.
 
CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL IN BAKERSFIELD BEGINNING AT 9:00 A.M.  Breakfast with Santa from 9:00 till 11:00 a.m. at the school cafeteria with pancakes, sausage and milk…cost is $2.00.  Pictures will be taken with Santa.  The Christmas Parade is at noon.  The theme is “A Home Town Christmas.  Prizes will be given.

FRIDAY, DEC 8 – THE TREE LIGHTING ON THE COURT SQUARE IN WEST PLAINS will be at 6:00 p.m.  There will be Christmas caroling, hot cocoa, candy canes and appearance by Santa Claus.  Photo with Santa will be available.  

December 9


THE MAMMOTH SPRING CHRISTMAS PARADE IS AT 6:00 P.M. on December 9th.  They will travel along Main Street following a Christmas Extravaganza to be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

West Plains Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade is December 9th at 4:00 p.m.

Parade entry forms are available here at K-Kountry 95 radio station, Community First Bank, Mammoth Spring Collision, Double 0 Highway, north of the radio station, and Scott Cecil’s State Farm office by Subway.  If you would like for your float to be judged, there is a $10.00 entry fee.
SATURDAY, DEC 9 – BREAKFAST WITH SANTA AT THE WEST PLAINS CIVIC CENTER FROM 8:00 UNTIL 11:00 A.M.  The cost to attend is $5.00 for adults with one child 12 and under...child eats free…or $3.00 for child only.   This will include a free photo with Santa, a photo booth with Buddy the Elf, face painting, books for sale and writing a letter to Santa.  Breakfast consist of Pancakes, Sausage and a drink.

THE KOSHKONONG CHRISTMAS PARADE IS AT 1:00 P.M.  The FFA Alumni will serve breakfast at the Koshkonong Elementary cafeteria with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. Pictures will be available at no cost.  A photo contest for the most adorable Christmas baby, Mr. and Mrs. Sugar Plum, Mr. and Miss Snowflake and Mr. and Miss Merry Christmas. Voting for the photo contest will be done with penny votes…cans will be located in the elementary cafeteria. Pickup date is Dec 15th by 3:00 p.m.
