February 2-(Each Thursday)


A new program has been organized to help those who are either currently struggling with or have struggled with alcohol, drugs or addictions.  It’s called Celebrate Recovery which meets every Thursday evening from 6 to 730 at the Thayer Christian Activity Center.  It’s free to the public.  A meal will be offered at 6 with group time and break out sessions following the meal.  This is a special cooperative effort of the Thayer First Baptist Church and the First Church of God in Thayer.  The session will be lead by Keith Chapin.  So if you have hang-ups, hurts and habits your need to break, please come to this faith based program called Celebrate Recovery.  It’s every Thursday night.   Come as you are and be prepared to receive good help in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Come join the Bakersfield Church of Christ Vacation Bible School May 29th through June 2nd.  Everyone is welcome and you are encouraged to bring a friend.  Classes will be provided for all ages along with singing and refreshments.  It starts at 7 and over at 8:15 nightly.  The adult classes will be lead by Clint Yarber on Monday, Ray Crawford on Tuesday, Wayne Stewart on Wednesday, Roy Moss on Thursday and Dennis Willard on Friday.  A fish fry will follow the Friday evening service.  They hope you will come.   The Bakersfield Church of Christ.

The Legendary country group Shenandoah will perform at North Arkansas Electric Cooperative’s Annual Meeting at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Salem on Thursday,  June 1. Cooperative members and their families are invited to NAEC’s 77th Annual Meeting. Registration will be held from 2 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.  Bingo will be played from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to Shenandoah, Billy Joe French and Friends as well as electrical safety magician Scott Davis will perform beginning at 4:15 p.m. A barbecue meal will be served beginning at 4:15 p.m.  The business session will begin at 7 p.m. and include the election of one member to serve on the NAEC Board of Directors. A brief summary of cooperative operations, as well as other reports, also will be presented. Following the business session, a retired service truck and other prizes will be raffled. An Annual Report will be mailed to each member in the middle of May. Included with the report will be a registration card unique to each member. NAEC requests that each member bring the registration card to the meeting to speed registration.   Annual Meeting schedule of events:    Registration – 2 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.    Bingo – 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.  Entertainment – 4:15 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.    Barbecue meal – 4:15 p.m.   Business meeting – 7 p.m.

The Southern Belle Grandmothers Club of West Plains will host its annual quilt show on June 2nd and 3rd in the Magnolia Room of the Civic Center in West Plains.  Area residents and quilt enthusiasts are encouraged to take you favorite quilt to display in the Magnolia Room.  An old fashion bed turning will be held on June 2nd at 5:30 and June 3rd at 10:30, 1:30 and 5:30.  Bed turnings evolved from ladies proudly showing their prized quilt to friends and visitors.

The St. Paul United Methodist church’s annual yard sale will be held Friday, June 2nd from 8:00 till 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 3rd from 8:00 till noon.  Clothing, house ware items, toys, books, appliances, many items.  The church is located on Business 63 up the

Due to the rain the Mammoth Spring First Baptist Church has rescheduled the 7th annual “John Romine Memorial” freedom run 2017 to Saturday, June 3rd.  Meet at Simmons Bank…registrations begins at 9:00...rides starts at 10:00...Everyone is welcome.  Ride will go over around Mountain Home and back to the church for Bar B.Q. dinner and fellowship. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a “Kids Fishing Derby” for youngsters 12 years old and younger, at the Commission’s Jim Hinkle/Spring River State Fish Hatchery on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The Jim Hinkle/Spring River State Fish Hatchery is located 2.5 miles south of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas at the end of State Highway 342.  The youngsters will be fishing in the hatchery’s stocked ponds for rainbow trout.  Anglers must bring their own bait and tackle-no live bait is allowed.  Derby rules are: free fishing for kids 12 years old and under; limit of 3 fish per child; no culling; only one rod and reel per child; and adults cannot fish.  Adult supervision is required. Ozark Medical Center Foundation will hold its first OMC Dice Run of the Mills fundraiser on Saturday, June 10th. The Dice Run is open to motorcycles and vehicles. Cost to enter is $20.00 per vehicle. Riders can begin the route anytime after registration, which is 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. at OMC Parkway Center. The run is 117 mile ride that includes stops at Dawt Mill, Hodgson Mill, Zanoni Mill, Rockbridge and Twin Bridges. Rides will stop at a Lot Party at Great Rivers Distributing on Hiway 63 in Pomona beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Beginning at 2:00 p.m. Entertainment will be the Fender Bender band. T-Shirt, short and long sleeved, and koozies will be for sale. The 2017 Thayer Offensive and Defensive Line Camp will be held at the Thayer High School on June 19th, 20th and 21st.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m.  Starts at 9:00 a.m. and
ends at 3:30 p.m.  
Monday, June 19th _Middle School Camp (grades 6 to 8)
Tuesday and Wednesday, June 20th and 21st.  9 though 12 grade.
 The camp will be run by Quincy University football coach Gary Bass.  Each camper should bring Helmet, Shoulder Pads, cleats, athletic shorts, jersey change of clothes and tennis shows.  Bring you own lunch - lunch break is from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.
